A Category 4 hurricane hit the US, causing more than $14.1m in damage.
According to Wikipedia it was the most powerful storm that hit Louisiana, measured by the strongest sustainable winds.
As most hurricanes, it originated in the Atlantic Ocean and hit the Virgin Islands on August 22.
It continued west and started building up strength as it hit Puerto Rico.
