Yet another hurricane has formed over the Atlantic.

The tropical depression initiated northeast of St. Lucia and the hurricane was given the same name as the Caribbean island.

The storm moved west towards Caribbean Islands and when it approached the British Virgin Islands the winds reached 85mph, which meant it became Category 1 hurricane.

Quite unusually, the hurricane bounced off the Caribbean Islands when it reached Puerto Rico and traveled north without hitting any of the islands.

Despite being a hurricane of just the first category, weather stations recorded an unusual amount of sprite lightning activity.

“We’re quite pleased to see that Lucia hasn’t reached our shores. Strong winds and increased lightning activity could really damage our telescope” – said one of the researchers from Arecibo Observatory.
